Kuss wins Giro stage 19 to complete Grand Tour trilogy, Vingegaard retains lead
Kuss became the 116th rider to complete the Grand Tour stage-winning trilogy after outdueling Giulio Ciccone on the final climb.
- On Friday, American Sepp Kuss secured a solo victory in Stage 19 of the Giro d'Italia, conquering the 151-km route through the Dolomites to Piani di Pezzè in Alleghe.
- By winning this brutal mountain stage, Kuss became the 116th rider in cycling history to complete the Grand Tour stage victory trilogy, adding wins from the Tour de France in 2021 and Vuelta a Espana in 2019 and 2023.
- Kuss launched a pursuit on the final climb, catching Italian Lidl-Trek rider Giulio Ciccone with just over two km remaining, and finished 13 seconds ahead of Canadian Derek Gee-West.
- Dane Jonas Vingegaard retained a commanding 4:03 overall lead in the General Classification, while Kuss moved up to 13th place overall; Vingegaard said Kuss "deserves it the most."
- The Giro d'Italia continues with Saturday's mountainous 200 km Stage 20, followed by the race's ceremonial flat finish in Rome on Sunday, which will determine the final General Classification standings.
