Kung wins Vuelta stage 18, Mas retains healthy overall le
- Stefan Küng of Tudor Pro Cycling won stage 18 of the Vuelta, completing the flat 32.1km time trial from El Puerto de Santa María to Jerez de la Frontera in 35:22, beating Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe's Callum Thornley by three seconds.
- Primož Roglic of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe set off strongly and appeared to be doing considerable damage to both Enric Mas of Movistar Team and Felix Gall of Decathlon CMA CGM, going 22 seconds quicker at the 11km checkpoint as Mas defended his Vuelta lead.
- By the 22km checkpoint, Mas had rallied to within 27 seconds of Roglic and conceded only six more in the final third, finishing 33 seconds back in 12th place while Roglic leapfrogged Gall into second overall.
- Mas finished the day 1:37 ahead of Roglic in the general classification with Gall at 3:01, as Roglic placed fourth on the stage ahead of Wout Van Aert of Visma-Lease a Bike and João Almeida of UAE Team Emirates-XRG.
- Küng celebrated his 24th victory, saying he had to be "dialed in from the start" on the fast 32km course, marking his second Grand Tour stage win, while 23-year-old Thornley's second-place finish marks a breakthrough result in his first WorldTour season.

Stefan Küng is the winner of the time trial in the 18th stage of the Tour of Spain with the finish in Jerez. Slovenian cyclist Primož Roglič crossed the finish line 19 seconds behind. In the overall classification, he overtook Gallo, who was behind the best today. Enric Mas remains the leader of the race, but lost a few seconds to Roglič. The difference between the leaders is one minute and 37 seconds.

With the exception of a chrono specialist, the Spanish climber only granted 33 seconds on Primoz Roglic, on a 32-kilometre flat course, to keep a 1:37 lead over the Slovenian, his new dolphin, in the general standings.
