Kogi: Vice Principal, Two Others Killed, Students Kidnapped in Bandits' Attack
Security operatives rescued all students after bandits killed three people and disrupted a WAEC examination, the Kogi State Government said.
- On Wednesday, gunmen attacked Iluke Community in Kogi State, killing three people. Among the deceased was Gani Anifowose, the Vice Principal of Government Secondary School, as the incident left the area in mourning.
- According to the Kogi State Government, the assailants arrived on about 40 motorcycles. Commissioner for Information and Communications Kingsley Fanwo stated the attackers disguised themselves in military uniforms to gain access to the community.
- During a gun battle, Security, Police, Military, and Local vigilantes rescued students scheduled to sit for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination . The operation prevented a mass abduction attempt.
- The Kogi State Government confirmed one attacker was killed during the response, while one security operative sustained injuries. "The unfortunate attack led to the death of three members," the Government said.
- Armed groups continue to strike schools in Nigeria, and this attack reflects persistent security challenges. Authorities are currently tracking remaining suspects, noting that dozens of students kidnapped from Oyo state last month remain missing.
