Kiplimo and Feysa seek repeat Chicago Marathon wins
More than 55,000 runners will race on a flat course where world records have fallen, with Brigid Kosgei and other contenders threatening both repeat bids.
- Defending champions Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda and Hawi Feysa of Ethiopia return to Sunday's 48th Chicago Marathon, seeking to defend their respective 2025 titles.
- After securing victories in 2025, both champions view the return as career-defining. "Coming back to Chicago is my special moment," Kiplimo said, while Feysa noted she feels "better positioned to win this year."
- A world-class field challenges the defenders, including Amos Kipruto, who finished second last year, and Brigid Kosgei, who won Tokyo in 2:14:29. Milkesa Mengesha makes his Chicago debut with a 2:03:17 personal best from Germany.
- Repeating as champion remains historically difficult; no man has won back-to-back since Samuel Wanjiru in 2009 and 2010. Kipruto hopes to break this pattern and claim the top podium spot.
- More than 55,000 runners will compete over the 26.2-mile course, where favorable conditions could facilitate record-breaking times. Kiplimo, with a 2:00:28 personal best, figures to challenge the two-hour barrier.
