King County Lifts Burn Ban | Department of Local Services
Cooler weather and higher humidity lowered wildfire danger enough for limited outdoor burning to resume under local rules, officials said.
On Thursday, Oct. 1, Fire Marshal Eric Urban and Pierce County Fire Marshal Ken Rice lifted burn bans in unincorporated King County and Pierce County, while the Skagit County Fire Marshal removed restrictions for unincorporated Skagit County.
Cooler and wetter seasonal conditions reduced the elevated wildfire risk that prompted the restrictions, allowing wildland fuels to recover moisture and lowering danger levels to safe burning thresholds.
Urban reminds residents that approved recreational fires must be built in metal or concrete pits, grow no larger than three feet in diameter, and remain at least 25 feet away from any structure with a 5-gallon bucket of water nearby.
Residents in incorporated areas must contact their local fire department for specific regulations, while unincorporated Skagit County residents obtain permits through the Burn Permit Request and Permit System for piles larger than 4 feet by 4 feet.
With Stage 1 and Stage 2 bans removed, officials ask the community to continue making safe, responsible choices. People with questions should contact their local fire authority to maintain a fire-safe environment.
