King Charles ‘tried to check on wellbeing of explorer Ranulph Fiennes’: The Telegraph
Buckingham Palace sought to contact the 82-year-old explorer after friends raised concerns about his health, and his wife reportedly refused the approach.
King Charles attempted to contact long-time friend Sir Ranulph Fiennes after learning the 82-year-old explorer was "in a very poor state," but the Palace was told to "back off" by his wife, Louise Millington-Cotes.
In February last year, Anton Bowring, Sir Ranulph's business partner and long-standing friend, alerted the King to the explorer's declining health and isolation, prompting the monarch to express he was "most concerned."
Claiming inquiries were causing her husband "immense distress," Louise Millington-Cotes threatened the intermediary with police and expressed anger that the Palace had been given her contact details.
Stepson Alexander Millington-Cotes and adventurers Ben Fogle and Bear Grylls are calling for an investigation, with Fogle stating he is "deeply disturbed" and Grylls claiming they were "desperately trying to connect."
Friends and family have rallied around Sir Ranulph, who has not been seen in public for two years, as reports emerge alleging he was unlawfully kept in care homes in Wales.
