King and Queen to attend Antigua and Barbuda’s independence parade
The royal couple met cricket legends and inspected troops after a brief downpour interrupted the parade.
On Friday, King Charles III and Queen Camilla attended the 45th annual Antigua and Barbuda Independence Parade at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, featuring military ceremonial drills.
The royal visit is part of a nine-day Caribbean tour preceding the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting hosted by Antigua on Tuesday.
Caught in a torrential downpour, the King repeatedly asked "Where's the umbrella?" while Camilla quickly secured her own; Charles later joked he was "growing watercress on my trousers."
Following the parade, the royal couple met four legendary West Indies cricket knights, including Sir Viv Richards and Sir Richie Richardson, and attended a Sunday church service celebrating the "family of nations."
The upcoming Commonwealth summit will address slavery's legacy, as UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham proposed "structured dialogue" with those impacted, though he dismissed financial reparations from Britain.
During his visit to Antigua King Charles is surprised by a heavy rain shower. An umbrella is only given to his wife Camilla. The monarch reacts visibly annoyed, but with British humor.
