We received a great report from Killarney Salmon & Trout Angling Club on their recently held Juvenile Competition. Check it out below… Killarney Salmon & Trout Anglers were delighted to have 19 juveniles attend, and conditions were smashing for some great fishing. Nearly every person attending managed to hook a fish on the night, which was a great experience for the budding anglers and onlooking parents and grandparents…it was hard to say at times who was smiling the most! The rain held off right up to the hooter at 8:15 pm, but unfortunately, the presentation of prizes and availing of some well-earned refreshments at the car park was done with umbrellas aloft. A group photo of some of the participants on the night with parents and Club Members assisting after the shower passed The event was run under the Inland Fisheries Ireland Sponsorship Programme 2026 and permits for the event were also provided by IFI. Everyone present on the night was delighted with the assistance from the experienced IFI team of Assistant Fisheries Inspector Tim Moore, ably supported by Jose and Paul. As well as offering support and advice to the young anglers and their families, they also presented every attending angler with a Go Fishing Goodie Bag to foster interest in our aquatic species in this country, their environment, and the need to preserve it, along with some nice branded headwear to keep the sun off next time on the water! A young angler on the evening takes time out to pose for the camera while enjoying his sport Killarney Salmon & Trout Anglers are delighted with the ongoing support from Inland Fisheries Ireland as it allows the club to offer the likes of such an evening’s fishing to juveniles from the locality with the presence of experienced club anglers to offer tuition, as well as availing of the knowledge from the Fisheries Team. Emma Woulfe fishing with assistance on hand ,if required ,from Club Chairman DJ O Riordan and the lovely backdrop of Barfinnihy Lake in all its splendor This year we ran two events and had approximately 20 juvenile anglers at both also noting that we are maintaining a good few returning from year to year and also have a small but holding percentage of female anglers giving the sport a try.
