Kids in Britain flush up to 13,476,238 MILES of loo paper annually
A poll of 2,000 parents found 78% have urged children to use less, as Essity opened a £30 million recycled paper facility.
Hygiene company Essity opened a £30 million recycled paper facility in Prudhoe, Northumberland. To mark the launch, the company released a study finding children in Britain flush up to 13,476,238 miles of toilet paper annually.
A poll of 2,000 parents found half believe their offspring are the main users of toilet paper. Findings suggest children consume more than 1.1 billion rolls annually, with 78 per cent of parents pressuring them to reduce usage.
Toilet paper usage for mopping spills or arts and crafts contributes to high consumption. Consequently, 36 per cent of parents now require children to replace the roll themselves once finished.
PinPepCarole Weatherspoon, a teacher at Prudhoe Castle First School, partnered with Essity to educate students on the recycling journey. She noted that seeing recycled materials at scale might make children think twice about their consumption habits.
Martin Hallissey, for Essity, stated the investment strengthens the company's ability to source recycled fibre. The new facility has capacity to take in over 105,000 tonnes of recycled paper annually, improving efficiency and reducing waste.
