Pope Leo XIV begins his first foreign trip in Ankara today, visiting Turkey and Lebanon. The visit to Turkey, which ends on Sunday, will focus on commemorating the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and is also intended to promote dialogue between the Church and Islam.
Pope Leo XIV set out on this Thursday for his first trip abroad since his election as head of the Catholic Church a good half a year ago. He first visits Turkey, on Sunday he continues to Lebanon. The Pontiff will be in the two Muslim-influenced countries for six days, but there are Christian minorities.
