Keyera, AltaGas and CN to Go Ahead with New Rail Terminal Project

  • On Wednesday, Keyera Corp., AltaGas Ltd., and Canadian National Railway announced the Alberta Corridor Export Rail Terminal Project, a $240 million infrastructure investment designed to strengthen Canada's energy supply chain linking the Alberta Industrial Heartland to West Coast export facilities.
  • Keyera will construct and own the terminal on Keyera-owned land, utilizing a unit train capable rail loop design to improve loading efficiency, reduce handling requirements, and lower transportation costs relative to traditional rail solutions.
  • The project represents an initial investment of approximately $240 million, including approximately $100 million incremental to Keyera's 2026 growth capital guidance, with the terminal expected to provide approximately 45,000 barrels per day capacity by mid-2028.
  • AltaGas President and Chief Executive Officer Vern Yu stated the partnership strengthens their "open-access energy export platform," while Keyera President and Chief Executive Officer Dean Setoguchi said the project extends their value chain to meet growing global LPG demand.
  • Highly scalable, the terminal will support transportation of additional energy products as market opportunities evolve, positioning the infrastructure to bolster Canadian energy competitiveness and provide customers with reliable access to global markets long-term.
