The Federal Cabinet has decided on the key points for the budget of 2027 and the Federal's medium-term financial planning. A significant increase in new debt is envisaged.
The Cabinet is launching the budget in 2027. However, many measures have not yet been adopted – and expenditure is rising. Do some departments need to exceed their pain limits?
The Federal Cabinet meets in Berlin in the morning (10 a.m.) and the Federal Budget 2027 and the rough financial planning until 2030 are on the agenda.
The Federal Cabinet decides the basic values of the federal budget 2027 and the financial plan until 2030. "Almost one trillion new debts. That's as much as all the federal governments together made by 2019," says World Economic Editor Holger Zschäpitz.
The cabinet is scheduled to approve the framework for the 2027 budget today. To raise more revenue, a sugar tax and higher tobacco and alcohol taxes are planned – along with significant new debt. This has drawn heavy criticism. By Anne-Katrin Mellmann.
