Kerala Congress fires person responsible for post asking CJI Surya Kant to resign
The party said the post was uploaded without leadership approval and removed the account manager after the deleted message drew criticism from the BJP and bar bodies.
- On Monday, opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge sought a meeting with Chief Justice of India Surya Kant to submit a memorandum demanding an end to alleged 'vote chori' and halt to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
- Chief Justice Surya Kant declined the request, citing the separation of powers principle; he noted the issues were already sub judice before the Supreme Court and advised the leaders to file formal petitions instead.
- Following the rejection, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee social media account posted an unauthorized demand for the Chief Justice's resignation, stating 'If law and order is not your domain, resign now. We will find your replacement who can handle it,' before deleting it.
- KPCC President Sunny Joseph removed the staffer responsible for the post, while the Supreme Court Bar Association and BJP condemned the remarks as attempts to interfere with judicial administration and undermine institutional dignity.
- The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the opposition's petition on Tuesday challenging the Election Commission's decision-making regarding the SIR process, with the petition seeking independent audits and disclosure of electoral roll revision files.
