Gov. Kemp Extends Georgia Gas Tax Suspension Through Nov. 30
Gov. Brian Kemp said the move keeps relief at the pump in place as Georgia drivers head into the Thanksgiving travel period.
On Saturday, Governor Brian Kemp extended Georgia's motor fuel excise tax suspension through Nov. 30, ensuring continued relief for drivers through the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday period.
Alongside Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones and House Speaker Jon Burns, Kemp maintained the state of emergency originally declared on Sept. 28 to address sustained global market volatility and elevated fuel prices.
Georgia's regular gas averages $3.66 per gallon, roughly 63 cents below the national average, while diesel averages $5.72, approximately 61 cents below the national mark; the state excise tax is 33.3 cents for gasoline and 37.3 cents for diesel.
The executive order also continues the suspension of state weight limits for commercial transport vehicles and waives penalties for trucks using off-road "dyed" diesel on public highways.
While the suspension runs through November, state officials have not indicated whether relief will extend into December if global oil market volatility persists.
