B.C. Athlete Takes on Barefoot Record Run
Wild will need to run under 7 hours to claim the Guinness World Records mark after returning from a broken-neck crash.
- On Monday, May 18, Kelowna-based ultra-endurance athlete Savannah Wild will attempt the Fastest 50km Barefoot Guinness World Record at the Greater Vernon Athletics Park, starting at 8 a.m.
- Wild brings extensive ultra-endurance credentials, having competed at the A.G 70.3 World Championships and completed a 25 hour continuous run and a 300km ultra-triathlon.
- Less than two years ago, a driver hit Wild with an F-150, breaking her neck and ending her predicted athletic career; she returned to competition within months.
- "I'll need to run sub-seven hours to claim it," Wild said, viewing this attempt as her answer to medical professionals who told her athletics were "off the table."
