Kelowna-Area Conservative Condemns OneBC Post About 2006 Stayed Charges
Singh says the allegations were never proven and that OneBC is using old court records to cast doubt on his candidacy.
On October 16, OneBC published 2006 court documents regarding BC Conservative candidate Pavneet Singh, alleging sexual assault, touching a person under 14, and forcible confinement in Vernon.
The charges were stayed in 2008 after a 12-month window under the Criminal Code; the BC Prosecution Service provides no public reasons for such stays by general policy.
Singh stated on Facebook he was 'falsely accused' while celebrating Canada Day in a public park, maintaining he has 'no criminal record' and has undergone multiple criminal record checks while running for office.
Describing the release as 'sleazy attacks,' the BC Conservative Party candidate for Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream denounced the move, while OneBC alleged questions remain unanswered about the case.
With the provincial election set for October 24, Singh faces opponents including OneBC's Alexandra Wright, BC NDP candidate Binny Boparai, and BC Green Party candidate Carter Mochinski in Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream.
