Brooklyn Store Responds After Kelly Clarkson’s Shopping Complaint
On Saturday, Grammy-winning singer Kelly Clarkson publicly criticized Art of Play, a Brooklyn novelty shop, on social media after claiming a sales associate treated her as if she could not afford the merchandise.
Comparing the encounter to a scene in the 1990 film Pretty Woman, Clarkson alleged the employee judged her appearance rather than assisting her with products she wanted to purchase.
Art of Play responded on Sunday, clarifying that Clarkson inquired about purchasing Molly, a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton who plays an important role in the magic shows hosted there, which was not for sale.
Nearly 8 million people targeted Art of Play online following Clarkson's post, causing the shop to experience widespread outrage and intense review bombing on Google.
Hoping to resolve the tension, the business stated they are keeping their heads down and want to clear things up with Kelly someday, referencing her 2011 hit song.
