Keir Starmer to deploy UK warships to the Arctic following Trump’s Greenland threats

On Saturday at the Munich Security Conference, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced the UK will deploy its carrier strike group to the North Atlantic and the High North this year, operating alongside the United States, Canada and NATO allies.
Following earlier this year comments from Donald Trump about Greenland, Starmer cited rising northern Europe security concerns and melting sea ice increasing hostile activity.
Led by HMS Prince of Wales, the operation will include Royal Navy warships, F‑35 jets, helicopters, and thousands of personnel from all three services, the MoD said.
The government says the move aims to deter Russian activity and protect vital undersea infrastructure, with activity under NATO's Arctic Sentry launched this week.
On the allied front, Starmer announced UK warships will deploy to the Arctic later this year, amid domestic controversy and France's 2026 carrier deployment plans.
