Kamala Harris Tells Michigan Crowd Democrats Have "Got to Be Too Big to Rig"
Harris backed El-Sayed as he highlighted Black maternal mortality and said lower health care costs should help families.
On Tuesday, former Vice President Kamala Harris joined Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed at a Detroit roundtable focused on Black maternal healthcare and lowering costs.
El-Sayed's campaign welcomed the support, with communications director Roxie Richner stating, "There's no better choice for Michiganders than Abdul when it comes to making healthcare more affordable."
A recent Washington Post Scholar poll found 67% of African American Michigan voters support El-Sayed, compared with 22% backing Republican Mike Rogers; El-Sayed embraced Harris's presence unlike other Democratic candidates.
Former Representative Mike Rogers criticized the appearance on social media, writing it was "no surprise" El-Sayed aligned with Harris and accusing the pair of promoting "higher costs, higher taxes."
As the Michigan Senate race heats up, candidates grapple over policy differences like Medicare for All, with the outcome set to help determine control of the Senate in November.
