- Refusing to answer, Klopp explained he did not know what was appropriate to say about such a serious subject, telling Deutsche Welle, 'It's not my job that everybody likes it, but this is a serious subject.'
- Before departing, Klopp added an ironic jab: 'Thank God, I thought, nobody asked me about that. And surprisingly, you are German. That surprised me so much.'
