Jub Jub arrested after alleged e-hailing driver shooting over girlfriend
Police say the presenter faces kidnapping and firearm charges after the driver escaped unharmed and reported the incident at a nearby station.
Media personality Molemo 'Jub Jub' Maarohanye was arrested on Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Edenvale following an alleged altercation with an Uber driver. He faces charges of kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice, and discharging a firearm in public.
Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko stated the incident occurred at 07:30 Sunday when Maarohanye confronted the driver, accusing him of a romantic relationship with his girlfriend. The suspect allegedly forced the driver into his vehicle and discharged a firearm.
The driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the incident. Maarohanye is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court on Monday, June 15, 2026.
In 2024, the National Prosecuting Authority withdrew rape and assault charges against Maarohanye, stating there was "no reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution." This arrest marks another legal challenge for the Uyajola 9/9 presenter.
The musician previously served time for a 2010 drag racing incident that killed four schoolchildren. Initially sentenced to 25 years, the Supreme Court of Appeal later overturned his murder convictions, reducing his effective sentence to 8 years.
