JPP Secretary General contacted institutions in Caracas that confirmed they had not received any funds — despite the promise made almost two months ago by the President of the Regional Government.
Elvio Sousa recalls a promise made by the head of the Madeiran executive (PSD/CDS-PP), Miguel Albuquerque, on July 10, 2026, guaranteeing that "he had released the sum of 150,000 euros for social support to the victims of the earthquakes in Venezuela".
Seismos registered in Venezuela on 24 June caused at least 6,438 dead and 86,358 injured, according to the latest official balance. Among the dead, h at least 138 Portuguese and Lusodescendants.
Together for the People (JPP) today criticized the "lack of credibility" of the Government of Madeira because it promised to send 150,000 euros to the victims of the earthquakes in Venezuela, but after two months "not a euro" arrived on the ground.
