Jordan Spieth withdraws from 3M Open field
Tournament organizers removed Jordan Spieth from the field after announcing his commitment 10 days earlier, leaving the 3M Open without one of golf’s biggest names.
On Friday, the 3M Open listed Jordan Spieth as a "late withdrawal," confirming the absence of the golf star who had committed via social media just 10 days earlier.
Tournament organizers previously announced Spieth's participation via social media, but those posts were removed; the reason for his reversal remains unknown.
Spieth's recent form is out of sorts, including a missed cut at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, where he shot 10-over par in his last five starts.
Fans attending the event at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine will not see the golfer, whose presence would have been a "boon" for the local tour stop.
While Spieth has never competed in this tournament, he could have utilized available FedEx Cup points to improve his playoff standing; he remains one of the sport's most well-known figures.
