Jordan strikes southern Syria after linking church attackers to 'terrorist groups'
On Monday, the Jordanian air force launched strikes against militant hideouts in southern Syria, retaliating for Friday's attack on a Greek Orthodox Church in Karak that killed nine people.
The operation, named 'Jordanian Deterrence- Hamoud,' targeted hideouts belonging to what Jordan described as terrorist groups linked to the church attack in the village of Hamoud.
Following a dawn shootout in Karak, authorities arrested three men identified as brothers Hazzah Zaidan Mohammad and Mishal Zaidan Mohammad, and brother-in-law Ahmad Sami Hussein, all Jordanian.
King Abdullah II vowed to respond with 'an iron fist' against extremism as Jordan declared three days of national mourning for the victims of the attack.
Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya warned that extremist thinking must be resolved to prevent future incidents, stating 'if this way of thinking is not resolved, we will see incidents like this again.
After the attack in Jordan on a church with nine dead, the Air Force has reacted with attacks on targets in neighbouring Syria. Several members of the IS terror militia have been killed.
