Johnson County Joins Nationwide Salute to Veterans

Operation Green Light will spotlight county buildings and encourage residents to show support for veterans and learn about available services.

  • Johnson County, Iowa, will participate in Operation Green Light from Nov. 4-11, illuminating the Administration Building, Health and Human Services Building, and the skywalk in green to honor veterans ahead of Veterans Day.
  • Led by NACo and NACVSO, the initiative encourages communities to display green lights as a visible symbol of appreciation for veterans and their service.
  • Residents, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to participate by changing one light bulb at home or at their place of business to green during the week leading up to Veterans Day.
  • NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase noted that while a green light is small, the collective effort across thousands of counties shows veterans they are seen, remembered, and supported by their community.
  • Beyond the symbolic display, Johnson County Veteran Services continues to assist veterans and their eligible dependents in accessing critical federal, state, and local benefits.
