Woman's death linked to drug gang turf war, murder trial hears

Six defendants face murder charges in a trial linked to a turf war between rival drug gangs, with the victim shot at close range in Talbot Green.

  • On March 9, 2025, Joanne Penney, 40, opened a flat door at 10 Llys Illtyd, Green Park, Talbot Green, and was instantly shot to the heart with a single bullet; the trial begins October 22 at Cardiff Crown Court before The Honourable Mr Justice Fordham.
  • Prosecutor Jonathan Rees KC said the alleged motive was a clash between two rival organised crime groups in Talbot Green, with the Rico OCG led by Joshua Gordon expanding from Leicester and clashing with Daniel `Jimmy` Joseph's group.
  • Knocking at the flat, the court was told Miss Quailey-Dashper, Mr Huntley, immediately shot at the door opener, then ran back to the car, said Mr Rees.
  • The defendants deny murder charges while prosecutors argue joint responsibility, saying Marcus Huntley pulled the trigger but all six, including Joshua Gordon and Tony Porter, are liable.
  • Following earlier clashes, prosecutors said the Rico OCG discussed obtaining a gun to `send a message to their rivals`, the court heard, with the property linked to drug use not being Joanne Penney's home.
