Jets Shake up Kicker Battle, Signing Jason Sanders and Waiving Younghoe Koo
Sanders, a former All-Pro, joins Cade York in a competition for the Jets’ open kicking job after Nick Folk left in free agency.
On Wednesday, the New York Jets signed kicker Jason Sanders and waived kicker Younghoe Koo after the veteran struggled during OTAs.
Koo's brief tenure ended after he failed to connect on field goal attempts during OTAs, continuing the team's roster turnover following the departures of Lenny Krieg and Will Ferrin.
Sanders, a former first-team All-Pro, converted 90.2% of his field goal attempts during the 2024 season, hitting 37 of 41 kicks to give the Jets a proven veteran option.
With the roster now featuring Sanders and Cade York, the team's kicking competition narrows to two candidates. The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt reported he expects the battle to continue between both kickers.
Since Nick Folk signed with the Atlanta Falcons in March, the Jets' kicking position has remained unsettled, and head coach Aaron Glenn continues evaluating options to solidify the role.
