Jessie Reyez, Drake to be honoured for songwriting at SOCAN Awards

Reyez will receive the international achievement award, and Drake will earn his fifth straight songwriter of the year honor, SOCAN said.

  • On October 26, the 2026 SOCAN Awards will take place at Toronto's Rebel nightclub, honoring Toronto hip-hop and R&B heavyweights Jessie Reyez and Drake with special achievement honors.
  • Drake will claim his fifth consecutive songwriter of the year award for his unmatched influence on music worldwide, while Reyez earns the international achievement award for representing Canada on the global stage.
  • Among other honorees are Toronto rapper Maestro Fresh Wes and producers Anthony Davis and Peter Davis for their 1989 hit Let Your Backbone Slide, alongside breakout winners Jade LeMac, Nathan Micay, and Jenna Andrews.
  • Actor Andrew Phung and TV personality Arisa Cox will host the gala, presenting winners with The SOCAN, a trophy that functions as a musical instrument featuring five custom bronze crotales.
  • The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada manages licensing fees and protects songwriters' rights; last month, it launched a lawsuit against U.S. artificial intelligence company Suno, alleging the generator copied repertoire without permission.
