Jensen Huang Eyes CPU Boom as Agentic A.I. Reshapes Chip Market
Huang said Vera is already selling and could add a new $200 billion market as Nvidia targets agentic AI workloads.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang unveiled the Vera CPU this week, describing it as the 'world's first CPU, purpose-built for agentic AI' and identifying a $200 billion market opportunity for the company.
Historically known for GPUs, Nvidia is pivoting to CPUs because agentic AI workloads require different processing; Huang noted that while GPUs handle 'thinking,' CPUs excel at performing assigned tasks.
CFO Colette Kress reported $20 billion in standalone Vera CPU revenue this year, with leading AI firms including SpaceX, Anthropic, and OpenAI already receiving their first systems.
Wall Street analysts responded positively, with JPMorgan analyst Harlan Sur raising his target to $280, reflecting 25% upside, while Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya cited Nvidia's emerging CPU leadership.
The Vera CPU will integrate into the Vera Rubin supercomputing platform, expected to debut later this year, delivering 10 times more performance per watt than its predecessor Grace Blackwell.
Despite doubts and warnings about possible investment, the demand for processing for Artificial Intelligence (IA) seems unstoppable and Nvidia remains the main beneficiary of this trend. The GPUs and accelerators designer company presented solid financial results for the first quarter of its fiscal year 2027, greatly exceeding the expectations of analysts and announcing an ambitious expansion to the CPU processor market valued at $200 billion.
