Jason Kidd is out as coach of the Mavericks, 2 weeks after the hiring of team president Masai Ujiri
On Tuesday, the Dallas Mavericks announced they are parting ways with head coach Jason Kidd, ending his five-year tenure with the franchise by mutual decision.
Kidd oversaw a 205-205 record during his five seasons, but his role in the 2025 trade of Luka Doncic sparked internal questions and criticism throughout his tenure.
Despite leading the team to the 2022 Western Conference Finals and the 2024 NBA Finals, Kidd missed the postseason in three other seasons, finishing his playoff tenure with a 22-18 record.
Team president Masai Ujiri, who joined the organization two weeks ago, stated the team must "build a basketball organization capable of sustained championship contention" under new direction.
The Mavericks' opening is the sixth coaching vacancy this offseason, and Ujiri plans to conduct a thorough search to replace Kidd as the team pursues championship contention.
