Jason Kidd Breaks Silence Following Departure From Dallas Mavericks
The former Dallas coach thanked players, fans and the city after the team moved on, following a 205-205 regular-season record in five seasons.
The Dallas Mavericks parted ways with head coach Jason Kidd following the 2025-26 NBA season, a decision led by new team president Masai Ujiri shortly after his hiring.
During his five years leading Dallas, Kidd compiled a 205-205 regular-season record and a 22-18 postseason record, guiding the franchise to the 2022 Western Conference Finals and the 2024 NBA Finals.
After Nico Harrison was fired at the start of the 2025-26 season, Kidd expressed interest in the president of basketball operations position, a sequence that led both the Mavericks and the coach to mutually part ways.
Two days after his departure, Kidd issued a social media statement thanking the players, fans, and city of Dallas, writing, "The friendships and memories created here will stay with us forever."
Candidates to replace Kidd include former assistant Sean Sweeney, who currently leads the San Antonio Spurs' defense in the Western Conference Finals, Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, and former Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan.
