- Captain Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming, who has featured in 55 T20Is, leads the squad alongside Ibrahim Takahashi and Declan Suzuki-McComb, the only other players with more than 50 T20I appearances.
- The squad mirrors the Asian Games team, as Japan opted not to include players eligible under ICC regulations but ineligible under Asian Games rules.
- Before competing in the Asian Games beginning September 24, Japan plays two T20Is against Hong Kong on September 19 and 20 to finalize preparations.
