Jamie Davis wins Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Louisiana
Jamie Davis, a farmer and former parish official from northeast Louisiana, won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in a reliably red state.
Davis defeated Gary Crockett, a business owner from New Orleans, in the Democratic runoff election to succeed Republican Senator Bill Cassidy.
Davis had strong support from the state party and significant campaign resources but faces a challenging race to become the first Democrat in 18 years to win a Louisiana Senate seat.
In the Republican runoff, Representative Julia Letlow, backed by President Donald Trump, competed against Louisiana Treasurer John Fleming.
