Webb Captures Stars in the Early Stages of Life in a Nearby Stellar Nursery
This Webb infrared image, released on October 6th, 2026, shows the star-forming region NGC 7129, about 3,300 light-years from Earth. The central star, LkHα 234, is a young star of 5–8 solar masses whose outflows have cleared a cavity about 3.5 light-years across. On the right side of the region, younger protostars shoot jets of very hot material that create shocks in the surrounding gas.
Webb Captures Stellar Jets
NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has revealed many protostars and stars within the glowing gases of NGC 7129. Hot, atomic hydrogen gas is shown here in the golden region, while cooler, molecular hydrogen gas, shocked by embedded protostars, is represented in red.NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI; Image Processing: Alyssa Pagan (STScI) An image from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope released on Oct. 6, 2026, reveals a cauldron of cosmic creation. NASA's James Webb Space Telescope released new images of the NGC 7129 nebula, located about 3,300 light-years from Earth. The images reveal stars in early stages of formation, hidden by...
James Webb Space Telescope Uncovers Overlapping Jets and a Golden Cavity in NGC 7129
Photo credit: NASA/Chris Gunn NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope turned its near-infrared camera toward a dusty patch of the constellation Cepheus and returned an image of NGC 7129 that lays out several stages of star formation across a single frame. Roughly 3,300 light-years from Earth, the region spans about 5.7 light-years and holds both young [...]
