Jalen Hurts' Blood Clot Diagnosis Explained
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss at least three months of the NFL season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli.
Doctors originally diagnosed Hurts with a superficial blood clot in London on Oct. 15, but a follow-up ultrasound last Wednesday showed the clot had moved to his lungs.
CBS News chief medical correspondent Jon LaPook called the situation "very serious," noting that travel, dehydration, and limited movement increase clot risks during long flights.
Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban reached out to Hurts on Monday at the Birmingham Quarterback Club, while Eagles coach Nick Sirianni stated, "I lean on our medical experts in every situation."
Eagles officials and agent Nicole Lynn anticipate a full recovery, stating, "We are thinking of Jalen and looking forward to a strong recovery." Hurts will remain active around the team during treatment.
