'It's in my DNA': Danault back loving hockey life with Canadiens
Danault has six goals and six assists in 45 regular-season games after returning to Montreal, and his playoff scoring has helped the Canadiens advance.
On Thursday, Montreal Canadiens centre Phillip Danault scored a crucial goal in a 6-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes, opening the Eastern Conference final with immediate impact.
The 33-year-old Danault returned to Montreal following a December trade from the Los Angeles Kings, where his role had diminished significantly with zero goals in 30 games.
Captain Nick Suzuki credited Danault's mentorship, while Cole Caufield said his work ethic was "eye-opening." Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis noted he "fills in a chair" the team needed.
Breaking a 13-game playoff goalless streak, Danault scored early in Monday's Game 7 overtime victory against the Buffalo Sabres, then added another goal against Carolina.
Alexandre Texier noted Danault's value to a roster averaging 25.8 years old, the youngest to reach the third round since the 1993 Cup-winning Canadiens, as Danault relished returning to the team he cheered as a child.
