Itoje out of latest England training squad
Steve Borthwick is weighing whether to rest his captain after Itoje missed the 26-man camp and has logged more Test minutes than any player since 2016.
Captain Maro Itoje has been left out of the 26-player England training squad assembling at Pennyhill Park this week to prepare for an uncapped England XV match against a France XV in Vannes on June 19.
Head coach Steve Borthwick is considering resting Itoje for the upcoming July tour against South Africa, Fiji, and Argentina, citing a "challenging year" for the lock after heavy workload over 12 months.
Harlequins prop Will Hobson earned his first call-up alongside uncapped teammates Nathan Jibulu, George Kloska, and Hugh Tizard, while injured players Luke Cowan-Dickie, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, and Ellis Genge will join for rehabilitation.
The 31-year-old has completed more Test minutes than any other player since his 2016 debut, and Borthwick previously mentioned "ongoing conversations" about his status moving forward.
While management hopes the 32-year-old will be available for the November Nations Championship, his participation in next year's Six Nations remains uncertain as he manages his recovery.
