'It can't be true' - Diogo Jota's wife Rute recalls discovering his tragic death
Rute Cardoso says she told Jota to keep his eyes on the road before the crash that killed him and his brother, according to a new biography.
- On Thursday, Rute Cardoso revealed in a new biography that her final message to Liverpool star Diogo Jota was "Keep your eyes on the road," sent shortly before his fatal collision in Spain.
- Diogo and his brother, Andre Silva, died in a July 2025 car crash while driving a rented Lamborghini to Santander, just 11 days after Diogo married Cardoso in Porto.
- Following a Spanish court investigation, the High Court of Justice ruled the Lamborghini suffered a blown-out tyre while overtaking, concluding no criminal action was necessary regarding the deaths.
- Written by Jose Manuel Delgado, "Diogo Jota: Forever In Our Hearts" features contributions from former Liverpool managers Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp, documenting the forward's 123 appearances and 47 goals.
- Anfield installed a permanent memorial to both brothers in July and retired Jota's No20 shirt, while proceeds from the biography support the LFC Foundation's grassroots football programme.
