SWEIDA, SYRIA, JUL 16 – Israeli strikes target Syrian military to prevent government forces from consolidating near the Druze-majority Sweida amid over 300 deaths in recent sectarian clashes, monitors report.
- Starting Tuesday, the IDF deployed reinforcements, and Defense Minister Israel Katz warned of further escalation if Syrian forces do not withdraw.
- The clashes began after the kidnapping of a Druze vegetable merchant, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported, and government troops entered Sweida on Tuesday to oversee a truce.
