Here’s what’s open and closed on Veterans Day
- On November 11, the U.S. Postal Service will close post offices and pause regular mail delivery nationwide for Veterans Day.
- Originating as Armistice Day, Veterans Day honors U.S. military veterans and was renamed in 1954 from the Nov. 11, 1918 armistice observance.
- Private delivery companies such as FedEx and UPS will largely operate Tuesday, with Priority Mail Express delivered but other mail paused until Wednesday.
- Most banks and credit unions will be closed for in-person services on Tuesday, including Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Chase, but online banking and ATMs remain available; the U.S. stock market will open while the bond market closes.
- Curtailing events, the longest federal government shutdown is canceling some parades and ceremonies, but National Parks Service sites will be open with free admission and many stores and restaurants remain open.
