Iraq Says US Agrees to Continue Cash Dollar Shipments
The shipment will replenish foreign-exchange reserves and support domestic liquidity after Iraq tightened oversight of dollar distribution, officials said.
On Saturday, Iraq reached an understanding with the United States to continue physical dollar shipments to Baghdad, with a new delivery expected in the coming days, government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi confirmed.
Earlier this year, Washington paused cash shipments to press Baghdad over attacks by Iran-backed armed groups, halting a shipment of roughly $450 million in April.
The agreement follows Iraqi efforts to improve regulatory control, including enhanced transparency through the electronic trading platform, to access oil revenues held at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
This cash injection arrives at a critical time for parallel currency markets, where the dinar has steadily recovered toward the 157,000 range per $100 after trading near 160,000 earlier in September.
Following meetings in New York between Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi and President Donald Trump, high-level diplomatic contacts helped unblock logistical pipelines governing foreign currency transfers to the Central Bank.
