Iran-Linked Hackers Target Surveillance Cameras Across Middle East, Researchers Say

Since late February, Iran-linked hackers exploited vulnerabilities in Hikvision and Dahua IP cameras across multiple Middle Eastern countries, with hundreds of attack attempts tracked by Check Point.

  • On February 28, Check Point Research reported multiple Iran-linked hacking crews targeting internet-connected surveillance cameras in Israel, Cyprus, Lebanon, Qatar, Kuwait, and other Middle Eastern states.
  • IRGC-Affiliated hackers previously gained experience targeting industrial control systems and later targeted U.S. drinking and wastewater facilities, while MOIS-linked groups compromised live CCTV streams from Jerusalem days before missile attacks.
  • Using commercial VPN exits and virtual private servers, researchers found exploitation of flaws in Hikvision Intercom Broadcasting System , Hikvision Integrated Security Management Platform , and Dahua products , all patched.
  • Check Point warned this activity may indicate potential follow-on kinetic attacks, noting exploitation has preceded missile strikes and could expose regional infrastructure to high-disruption tactics used against NATO and European interests.
  • While U.S. targets haven't been observed, defenders should update camera firmware, remove WAN access, and monitor for login failures, as Check Point assesses expansion in upcoming weeks.
