Iowa will replace Carver-Hawkeye floor with court used in NCAA regional in Houston
The updated floor will keep the Mediacom Court name and preserve the 2016 surface for commemorative memorabilia.
On Friday, the Iowa Athletics Department announced it purchased the basketball court used during the NCAA Houston Regional Elite Eight, planning to install it at Carver-Hawkeye Arena ahead of the 2026-27 basketball season.
Officials noted the current floor, installed in 2016, reached the end of its service life; the arena will transition from a parquet layout to a modern, single-surface design for the first time since 1983.
Installation begins next week, with the Connor Sports-manufactured floor arriving by May 21, while the surface will continue to be called Mediacom Court.
Rather than disposing of the court, the university will preserve the previous playing surface and develop plans to create commemorative memorabilia for fans and supporters.
Head Men's Basketball Coach Ben McCollum led the Iowa Hawkeyes to their first Elite Eight appearance since 1987, including victories over Florida and Nebraska, making this court a commemorative keepsake.
