Iowa couple celebrates 77 years married, but it's more than love that got them this far
The couple credits daily support and exercise for a marriage that has lasted more than 80 years, WOI reports.
- Paul and Erma Joslin are nearing their 77th wedding anniversary, having built a family of 58 in Iowa after moving from New York.
- In 1944, Paul and Erma met during a Sunday school skating party when Paul swooped in and took her attention from another boy. They have been "going round and round ever since," the couple said.
- Rather than a 50/50 effort, they practice a "100/100" approach to marriage. "When one person couldn't do something, the other would pick it up," they said, balancing household tasks.
- At 98 and 95, Paul and Erma exercise daily and maintain an active lifestyle. Over more than 80 years together, they traveled to 35 countries across five continents and worked for Drake University and the American Heart Association in Des Moines.
- Paul reflected that "we didn't plan on living this long," adding that Erma remained even-tempered through life's ups and downs. "She took life as it came," he said, which he found wonderful.
