Siri Gets Smarter: Apple Taps Multiple Chatbots for AI Upgrade
iOS 27 introduces an Extensions system allowing multiple third-party AI chatbots to integrate with Siri, expanding user options and enabling revenue from app subscriptions, Bloomberg reported.
According to a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to integrate third-party AI chatbots into Siri with the upcoming iOS 27, unveiling new "Extension" tools at the Worldwide Developer Conference on June 8, 2026.
Departing from the OpenAI agreement in place since 2024, the company will allow users to direct requests to competing services like Google Gemini and Anthropic's Claude rather than relying solely on ChatGPT.
Within the Settings app, users can manage integrations via the Apple Intelligence and Siri section, where the "Extensions" system enables agents from installed apps to work with Siri and other device features.
Apple reportedly aims to collect up to 30% from third-party AI subscriptions sold via the App Store, creating a financial incentive to open the platform to competitors.
Elon Musk's xAI startup sued Apple and OpenAI, accusing the companies of conspiring to "ensure their continued dominance" in the AI market, while Apple faces ongoing challenges delivering a fully functional AI-powered Siri.
