Private debt is evolving into a time bomb, which is increasing rapidly and is added to the "mountain" of public debt, worsening the picture of over-indebtedness that our country presents.
Private debt in Greece reached 420.9 billion euros, or about 169% of GDP, in the first quarter of 2026, according to a study by IOBE published in September. Overdue debts and non-performing loans amount to 238.6 billion euros, with almost seven out of ten euros related to tax authorities and social security funds.
