Investigation underway after body found in NSW bushland
Police are treating the death as suspicious while a post-mortem will determine the cause after a body was found in bushland.
On Saturday, police discovered a body in bushland near Newnes Plateau, north of Lithgow, while conducting an ongoing search as part of an investigation.
Superintendent Susan Johnston confirmed police were acting on a specific line of inquiry when they located the deceased; authorities are treating the death as suspicious due to its remote location.
"It is being treated as suspicious at the moment because of the nature of where the body was found," Superintendent Johnston said, as detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad assist the investigation.
NSW Police stated the identity of the deceased will not be confirmed until family members have been notified, with a post-mortem examination scheduled to determine cause of death.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000; Newnes Plateau, located near Wollemi National Park, is a remote area frequented by experienced hikers.
