Indian Police Arrest Fake Police Running 'Crime Bureau'

NOIDA, UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA, AUG 10 – Six West Bengal men used forged documents and fake insignia to extort money through a fake police bureau in Noida, police said during the arrest on Aug 10.

  • Following a tip-off, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police arrested six men in Sector 70, Central Noida, for running a fake International Police & Crime Investigation Bureau to extort money.
  • Amid growing fraud cases, the suspects rented premises in Sector 70, Central Noida, on June 4 and operated a fake police station for about 10 days.
  • During the raid, police seized nine mobile phones, 17 stamp seals, six cheque books, nine ID cards, four boards bearing the bureau’s name, and Rs 42,300 in cash, said Shakti Mohan Awasthy, DCP Central Noida.
  • A case has been registered at Phase 3 police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Information Technology Act and Emblems and Names Act, 1950, and all six suspects have been remanded to judicial custody.
  • The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police are reviewing their claimed links to Interpol and the International Human Rights Commission while probing overseas job scams and identifying additional victims.
