Intel makes a bid for handheld gaming PCs with new Arc G3 processors
The chips will let handheld makers use Intel Arc B-series graphics as the company enters a market long dominated by AMD Ryzen Z-series silicon.
Intel officially introduced the Arc G-Series processors today for Windows 11 gaming handhelds, launching the Arc G3 and high-end Arc G3 Extreme to compete with AMD's rival silicon.
These 14-core processors utilize Intel's 18A manufacturing process, featuring two performance cores, eight "Efficient cores," and four "Low-Power Efficient-cores" designed for energy efficiency.
Acer announced the Predator Atlas 8, the first handheld PC featuring these chips, while MSI and OneXPlayer also plan to adopt the new G-series platform.
On Wednesday, Valve raised the price for the OLED Steam Deck by $300, citing an AI-driven memory shortage that raises concerns about handheld market affordability.
Intel plans to share further details at the Computex trade show in Taipei next week, while consumers can expect the first Arc-powered gaming handhelds to arrive next month.
