IDOT Halts Non-Essential Lane Work to Ease Thanksgiving Holiday Traffic
- Illinois Department of Transportation said non-emergency lane closures will be suspended from 3 p.m. Wednesday until 11:59 p.m. Sunday to ease holiday traffic.
- With AAA forecasting record travel and 1.8 million Tennessee road trips, TDOT said it will halt lane closures to ease congestion on Wednesday and Sunday.
- Some long-term closures will remain and workers on-site in construction zones; motorists convicted of speeding face a $500 fine plus court fees, TDOT said.
- For Illinois travelers, IDOT advised motorists to use the traveler information map and reminded them to obey speeds and `move over, slow down` in work zones.
- Several local long-term closures will remain in place, including lane reductions on Illinois Route 2 over the Rock River in Winnebago County and closures on Flat Iron Road over Mokeler Creek in McHenry County plus White Oaks Road and Hunter Road in Chemung Township.
